As part of the celebrations marking the Golden Jubilee of the leadership of the Aga Khan, the Shia Imami Ismaili Council for Canada presents The Historic Cities Programme Exhibition and a seminar series at the Pendulum Gallery.

The exhibition features five of the Trust’s projects in Egypt, Syria, Mali, India, and Afghanistan and shows that culture is an asset that can help develop and transform communities.

The Aga Khan Trust for Culture is part of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) which works to better the quality of life of people in some of the world’s most impoverished nations. "The goals of education, self-sufficiency, eradication of poverty and overall commitment to upholding the dignity of humankind and improving the quality of life of the people living in some of the world’s most impoverished nations are what drive so much of the focus of the Aga Khan Development Network and our community. In fact, His Highness has been a pioneer in highlighting the critical role that culture plays in development," said Farid Damji, one of the organizers.

The Historic Cities Programme Seminar Series explores culture and development issues facingVancouver including the role of civil society and particularly culture in development.
