My knowledge of Middle Eastern fashion is limited. When the word Hijab is mentioned, traditional black outfits come to mind. I was quite surprised when Reham and Halah showed me photos of Riham Farouk’s Veil collection. Each piece was colorful and fashion forward. I’m told Riham is a well-known Egyptian Designer. An article I read the next day stated, “Ladies and girls love her designs because they are modest and trendy at the same time.” Reham explained she organized her first Hijab fashion show and asked if I would photograph the event. Unfortunately Riham wouldn’t be travelling to Vancouver for the show but I gladly accepted her invitation. Reham also shared she’s an Engineer by profession. While she’s earning her credentials in Canada she decided to organize a Hijabi fashion show. At some point she hopes her show will rival Vancouver Fashion Week! The first show was scheduled for Friday, 2.20 at Heritage Hall on Main St. The event was a sister’s only event meaning I had to wait for the event to end before I could enter the hall. Five ladies and girls remained to recreate the show. At 11pm we turned up the music and started shooting. Reham hopes to have her second show in the fall.
