Theatre teaches children about farming

Parents and children can learn about the value of farming and food with the help of puppets, stilts, music and actors at Richmond’s The Sharing Farm from August 5 to 15.
In Mortal Coil’s production, The Faerie Play, a child who is part of the local theatre school is stolen by one of the farm’s resident fairies. It is up to the rest of the cast, with the help of the audience, to solve the mystery of her whereabouts before she disappears forever in to the fairy world. Frank Rader, Iona Dan and Joseph Paul’s puppets educate families about nature and the importance of growing food.
“I hope both parents and children will learn in a fun and creative way about the value of farming and the food we all depend on,” says James Gates, Executive Director of the Sharing Farm.
There will also be light snacks available from the cob oven, in between the performances. The Sharing Farm grows food for the Food Bank.
