Best-selling book helps Chinese readers learn English

Author Gordon Allan launched his fantasy-inspired book Edwin and the Quest for Drow at Point Grey Golf Club Oct. 4. This book inspires, educates, and entertains readers of all ages to get a better understanding of the English language. It is a literary journey where readers are able to explore different avenues of learning in this novel that is translated page-by-page into English and Chinese.
Allan is a former Headmaster at an international school and current Administrator at an all boys’ institution in Canada. His book sold over 6,000 copies in three months in China.
“Many parents get misled into thinking that excessive memorizing of vocabulary and grammar rules is the magic formula needed to learn English. In fact, nothing could be further from the truth,” says Allan. He has seen students who know grammar rules but can’t put together one clear sentence.
While he lived in Montreal, Allan created the concept of Edwin and the Quest for Drow. He found a solution to help international students study English. Rather than memorizing the plot, the novel encourages students to focus on their writing style, grammar, and word choice.
