Web series tackles dating and mental health issues

BCIT graduates Michael Sangalang and Darren Tucker shot and produced My Imaginary Ex Girlfriend that will be released on Valentine’s Day on YouTube.
It’s a five-part series about love, growth, dating and mental health.
The short series follows the main character, a socially awkward, unconfident, well-intentioned landlord, Mark, as he attempts to assimilate himself into the dating world while working past the demons in his head. Joining him is Jessica, his new tenant and love of his life, and Lily, his crude, sarcastic, imaginary girlfriend.
Creators Michael Sangalang and Darren Tucker have worked on productions like Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, Lionsgate Films Reasonable Doubt, and over 40 other projects between them. They first collaborated together, creating the short film Loving Lily together in 2011.
For co-creator Michael Sangalang, My Imaginary Ex Girlfriend stands as a platform for raising awareness about mental health issues.
“I think the series is about how important human interaction is for mental health and human development.” said Sangalang.
