Restaurant Review: Corduroy Pie Company

We split two pizzas, including the Salami. Featuring crispy soppressata, black olives, garlic confit, shaved fennel, mozzarella, basil, and red sauce, this wound up being our favorite. As for the crust, it had an appealing chew and was able to withstand the wet ingredients at its center. The toppings worked together beautifully to create a bite that was meaty, salty, and fresh – notably the garlic confit (or whole roasted garlic cloves) which were almost caramelized on the outside, but soft and sweet with a mild garlickiness on the inside. The fresh basil also made a strong impact. I wasn’t able to detect much fennel flavour, but the pizza already had so many flavours, so it wasn’t necessary.

We had the Lamb Sausage  which featured house made lamb sausage, roasted red grapes, charred kale, roasted onions, smoked mozzarella, basil, and white sauce. The star of this pizza was the slightly gamey lamb sausage which was super juicy and well-seasoned. It paired well with the sweet roasted grapes, which helped cut its heaviness. It had a sweeter profile than the first. The cheese blended beautifully with the slightly garlicky white sauce base. I didn’t like the charred kale. It took away from the other flavours. I would order this again, but I would ask for it without the kale.

I really enjoyed the Salami pizza, and with the exception of the kale, I was also a big fan of the Lamb Sausage pizza. They have a super interesting looking Brussel Sprout and Bacon pizza that I would also love to give a try. So although it’s small and does get busy, it’s not nearly as bad as restaurants that are found in more commercial locations. I will definitely be visiting again.
