Discover Day teaches families about panning for gold

Discovery Day, hosted by the Association for Mineral Exploration, had over 600 attendees, which is double the number from last year.

Families learned how to pan for gold with the help of Yukon Dan, a professional gold panner.

The day kicked-off with a 'matchmaking' roundtable session for students and industry experts, focused on the different varieties of minerals found in British Columbia. Students tried to `stump the geologist’ by bringing their own rocks from home.

Britannia Mine, the Vancouver Whitecaps FC, Teck Resources and other industry leaders supported and provided a way for the industry to engage the community. There were also presentations and discussions shown at the AME Roundup conference.
