Balmoral Hotel faces 60 infractions

Between January and April, the City of Vancouver found 60 infractions at the Balmoral Hotel. The walls, ceilings and floors, as well as plumbing, did not meet maintenance standards.

If the Sahota family, who controls the Balmoral Hotel Ltd., is found guilty, the family could face a fine of $250 to $10,000.

"The City of Vancouver is committed to holding landlords accountable for maintaining habitable standards in Single Room Accommodation (SRA) buildings," says Kaye Krishna, General Manager of Development, Buildings & Licensing.

The Sahota family hired a contractor to assess the work that is needed to rehabilitate the property. After an inspection to assess the shoring and stabilization of the Balmoral Hotel on July 14, the City's Chief Building Official deemed the building to be stabilized to the City's satisfaction.
