In celebration of the 300th anniversary of the Guruship of Guru Granth Sahib — an international Sikh event — Kwantlen University College business student Inderpal Gill approached members of his local Sikh community to raise $10,000 to create the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Scholarship fund for Kwantlen students who dedicate their time to volunteer for charitable organizations. "I wanted to work with the Sikh community to establish a fund that was an enduring legacy of our faith and demonstrated our desire to give back to the community," said Gill. "Our message is that the Sikh community believes in life-long learning and is dedicated to helping humanity in any way possible." The donation will be matched by the Kwantlen University College Foundation for a total investment of $20,000. This will generate an annual award of $1,000 for a student studying at Kwantlen. The Kwantlen Foundation was established in 2000 and raises funds to create quality learning opportunities for Kwantlen students.
