The Certified Management Accountants Society of British Columbia is pleased to announce that Vancouver’s John Wong, CMA, was Class Valedictorian at the 2006 CMA Convocation held at the Fairmont Waterfront Hotel in Vancouver, B.C.

John Wong, CMA, Director of Campus Planning at the British Columbia Institute of Technology, earned the highest individual grade out of 163 graduates from the CMA Strategic Leadership Program.  He told an audience of over 1000 people during his valedictory speech, “I personally believe I’ve received more out of the CMA program than I can imagine being able to give back.”

“It taught us to be innovative, it taught us to be creative, it taught us to think laterally, it taught us to be prepared to adapt, and it taught us to work effectively in a team environment,” says John.  “We learned from each others’ experiences; experiences which I’ve adapted in my own personal environment.  For that I’ll always be grateful.”

To become a CMA, students must have a university degree or equivalent, complete the required courses through post-secondary studies or the CMA Accelerated Program, pass the CMA National Entrance Exam, and pass the CMA Strategic Leadership program (SLP).  The SLP is the cornerstone of the accreditation process as it is the professional development program that focuses on the best of contemporary and emerging management practices while developing the accounting, leadership, interpersonal, decision-making, and communication skills essential for today’s successful management professional.
