Fernie Alpine Resort in B.C. was another resort to be hit by the North American heat wave last season but they too are enjoying a bumper start to the season with snowfalls already up to 85 centimetres, as they plan to open on December 10.

Meanwhile in the Okanagan of B.C., Big White, Silver Star and Sun Peaks all pushed their opening weekends forward, announcing an abundance in early snowfalls and with a record start to the season.

While B.C. enjoys the blessing of the snow gods, Canada‘s ski areas in the Rocky Mountains of Alberta are claiming the best start to the season in over 10 years. Lake Louise is open with a snow base of 101 centimetres while neighbouring resort of Sunshine Village is enjoying an early snow base of 74.

The abundant snowfalls across B.C. and Alberta, Canada, has allowed all Canadian resorts to push their opening dates forward or open now.

The snow snuck up on many resorts who had staff planned to arrive within weeks, but they‘re now calling in all the troops as they try to get their mountains up and running to keep up with the continuous snowfalls.
