Trust fund CD for missing Filipina

A Filipino-Canadian composer is recording a tribute CD to a young Filipina woman from Toronto who went missing during a camping trip last August in the rugged and treacherous forests of Rainbow Falls Provincial Park east of Thunder Bay.

Moved by the Catholic school workers dedication to civic and religious organizations, Toronto-based composer Jun Dadivas, whose elder brother Pabs Dadivas is a popular singer in The Philippines, is recording a 16-track CD in honour of Christina Calayca, who was 20 when she went missing Aug. 6 while jogging in the early morning with her friends.
Jun Dadivas’ music CD is entitled A Day Goes By. He will be tapping the talents of Filipino-Canadian singers, pointing out that Toronto is rich in Filipino-Canadian singers comparable, if not excelling singers in the home country. He confides that he’s paying tribute to Christina because her good works and leadership are an example to youth, not only in Canada and The Philippines but in other parts of the world.

Part of the proceeds of the CD sales will be donated to a trust fund for Christina’s Toronto-based family.

Over 100 volunteers, including marine units, canine squads and search helicopters, scoured 570 hectares of thick bush in a vain attempt to locate Christina.

“This is probably the most rugged terrain in northwestern Ontario,” said OPP Supt. Mike Armstrong at the height of the search. “We’re talking cliffs in places 600 to 800 feet high, so it’s a very difficult area to search with a very dense tree canopy, which makes the search from the air hampered.”

Police said they don’t suspect foul play in Christina’s disappearance, a story reportedly widely within the Canadian Filipino community, as well as back home in The Philippines. While authorities hold out little hope for her safe return, flyers have been posted throughout the province of Ontario for Christina Calayca.
