Over 200 students from Renfrew Elementary School will host a special event to commemorate the upcoming fifth anniversary of the 2004 tsunami in Southeast Asia.
The students will join Conrad Sauvé, Secretary General of the Canadian Red Cross, and Jean Pierre Taschereau, Senior Manager, Emergency Response for International Operations at the Canadian Red Cross, who will thank the school for their tremendous contribution to tsunami relief.
In 2004, Renfrew students raised over $7,600 for the Canadian Red Cross’ tsunami relief efforts after the disaster devastated the Indian Ocean coastline on December 26.
The event will also feature a special showing of the Canadian Red Cross Pictures Talk exhibit. Pictures Talk features 25 photos taken by young tsunami survivors in Indonesia that offer a candid view of life in the region today, including families, homes, villages and schools.
The event takes place on Thursday, December 10 at 9:15AM at Renfrew Elementary School, 3315 East 22nd Avenue in Vancouver.
