Women’s cricket in Metro Vancouver and surrounding areas

Women’s cricket became officially integrated with the men’s game under the umbrella of the International Council of Cricket (ICC) in 2005. Since then there has been a growth in organized women’s cricket worldwide.  Looking to promote and grow women’s cricket in the region, the British Columbia Mainland Cricket League has established a women’s cricket league in Vancouver and the surrounding areas.   The 23rd of May will go down as one of the most important dates in the development of women’s cricket as it saw the first ever all-women’s cricket match being played in Metro Vancouver at Stanley Park.  There are currently three all-women’s cricket teams in Metro Vancouver and surrounding areas.  Whether you are a player or a beginner there is a program for you.  The West Vancouver Cricket Club is currently the only program in Metro Vancouver with players from the North Shore, Vancouver, Burnaby and New Westminster.  They are looking to field two teams in the league and welcoming new players of all ages and skill levels.

Please contact Ingrid Kendrick, Women’s Cricket Coordinator on 778 237 2604 or email womenscricket@wvcc.ca. The other two women’s teams are based in Surrey and in Chilliwack.  The team is Surrey is mostly young teenage girls with varying skill levels.   They can be reached by contacting coach Anil Khanna, on 604 889 6245 or email newdelhi00@hotmail.com.  Plans are being made for further women’s matches and tournaments in 2011 and 2012 and we look forward to welcoming you!
