A life-journey from Kerala to Grande Prairie

In his lifetime Sukumar Nayar visited 41 countries, climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, was nearly jailed as a terrorist, and met the Aga Khan.
“The Vivid Air”, Nayar’s newly released memoir recounts these and many tales of an educator who was awarded a Distinguished Services Medal by the British government.
These experiences include growing up in a community rife with caste and class distinctions, professional accomplishments beginning with his days teaching in a rural school in Kerala, India, his stint in the British Civil Service, emigration to Canada, becoming a professor and senior administrator in the post secondary system in Alberta, being involved in over 150 stage productions, and a late career as a consultant for the United Nations and the Canadian Executive Services Organization.
Somehow the man who started his journey in Kerala, South India ended up with the city of Grande Prairie, Alberta recognizing him as one of its Downtown Heroes.
Nayar holds post-graduate degrees from the University of London, and New York University. He was the Senior Master of English in Uganda, the Principal of Boyle School in Boyle, Alberta and the Northern Regional Director of Fairview College, Fairview, Alberta.
He and his family now live in Toronto.
