Micro-lending for Filipino Co-op members

One Filipino Cooperative of BC and Vancity Credit Union have formed a partnership for the implementation of FilCoop’s Pahiraman ng Bayan micro-lending service intended for members who are in financial need.
It is also aimed at providing assistance to members who are not yet qualified and unable to get assistance from traditional lending institutions like banks, payday loans and others.
This service will be directed for members of One Filipino Cooperative, particularly new immigrants, live-in caregivers, temporary foreign workers and individuals in financial difficulty.
One FilCo-op BC’s delegation was spearheaded by its president Tony Calderon, board members Cesar Flores and George Gaspar, secretary Pinky Labarda, and Marilyn Paulin, chair of the fund raising committee.
The Pahiraman ng Bayan will commence in September, 2011, with the initial seed fund from VanCity as well as from the membership shares of FilCo-op members.
