Darpan Magazine’s 2011 Achievement Awards night was recently held at Royal King Banquet Hall.
Belle Puri, from CBC, kicked off the night by introducing keynote speaker Mr.Narayanan Krishnan. Recognized as one of CNN’s top 10 Heroes in 2010, having Mr.Narayanan share his story with the audience was an event highlight and he received a standing ovation from over 700 attendees.
Krishnan once worked as an award-winning chef with a five-star hotel group. Today his nonprofit Akshaya Trust, founded in 2003, has served more than 1.2 million meals to India’s destitute - mostly elderly people abandoned by their families.
Narayanan was presented with a $5000 cheque from Gurvinder Hundal and Ramneek Dhillon of Darpan.
