What has changed: Everything has changed there, from the people to technology. I feel people are more modern there now.
What have you done for your hometown: I donated money to help build the local gate for the village. I also donate money every year to the village medical camp.
A national Handball player, who represented India in Moscow and Hong Kong in 1990 and 1991, left it all behind to move to Canada in 1993. After completing an M.A. in physical education, Mr. Nirmal Singh Bhangu successfully qualified through the police exam. He got posted in Tarn Taran and tried to continue his passion for the sport of Handball by making a police Handball team. But after getting married, Mr. Bhangu came to Canada leaving his police career behind. Coming to Canada was a complete change and it also meant looking for new career option. Mr. Bhangu started from pruning trees and moved on to working as a driver. He then opened his own video rental business in 1998 and recently opened the New Brandiz Pub in Vancouver. In his spare time he likes to watch wrestling. He also likes to listen to Durga Rangeela and Satwinder Bugga. “My heart still belongs to India. Many times I think of going back but I’m too used to the Canadian system,” says Mr. Bhangu.
