Lives Lived: Parmjit Bahia

Former Canadian field hockey player Parmjit Singh Bahia of Richmond passed away on February 2nd due to sudden health complications.
Bahia was a well-recognised figure in the Indo-Canadian community for his sporting accomplishments.
Born November 10, 1950, to Bikar Singh and Gurbachan Kaur Bahia in the village of Kukar Pind, Punjab, Bahia immigrated to Canada in 1970. In Vancouver, Paramjit soon joined India Club and was a key field hockey player for their championship teams.
He represented Team Canada in many international tournaments:
- 1978 World Cup, Argentina
- 1979 Pan Am Games (silver medal), Puerto Rico
- 1979 World Tournament, Australia
- 1977 and 1981 Intercontinental Cups in Italy and Malaysia respectively
Bahia worked in the construction industry, including projects for Aquilini Developments.  He also played an active role in the community, and served as Senior Vice President of the Khalsa Diwan Society (Ross Street).
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Mohinder Kaur; sons Sukhi (Neena), Paul (Pawan), Pavan (Satinder); and daughter, Jindy Kandola (Sat).
