Factors to consider for furnace replacement

It’s the worst case scenario: it’s 3AM and you wake up to discover the house is freezing cold.
Your bedroom feels like the Antarctic.
That dreaded day has arrived – your old heating system has grown cold and died.
It’s uncomfortable and inconvenient. But most of all, it’s intimidating.
How do you choose a new heating system?
BC based company Centra Heating and Windows has helped thousands of customers answer this and other home HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) questions.
Given their experience, they certainly have the answers when it comes to determining what type of furnace will work best in the Lower Mainland’s rainy, moist climate.

The more efficient a HVAC system is the more it tends to cost.
This however is offset by savings over time.
But every home and space is unique. That is why it best to consult with a HVAC specialist, such as Centra’s certified staff members, before making the investment.
They will conduct a number of tests on your space, such as determining heat-load and heat-loss calculations.
The new replacement heating system will undoubtedly be more efficient than the old furnace, thereby costing you less over time. Try out the Fortis BC Home Energy Calculator. As a high-yield household reno, furnace replacement can also increase the value of your property when done correctly.

There are also government incentives for customers purchasing a new furnace – they can qualify for the Furnace Rebate from the LiveSmart Efficiency Incentive Program.
Livesmart is offering $500 off the purchase of a new energy efficient furnace. In addition to that, Centra is offering NO HST for a limited time, giving you an additional 12% discount.
The LiveSmart grant is scheduled to expire on March 31, 2013, but can be canceled at any time if the maximum number of applicants is reached. To determine the eligibility of an upgrade under the LiveSmart Program, contact LiveSmart BC at at efficiencyincentives@gov.bc.ca.
