When you buy a freshwater fishing licence it supports the Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC stock more than 800 lakes around the province, creating more fishing spots closer to home.
You also help fund important research, conservation, and educational programs.
Since 2003, using 70% of the revenue from fishing licences, the Society has worked hard to stock small lakes, promote sport fishing, and improve the science of small lakes fisheries management.
Beginning on April 1, 2015, 100% of licence revenue will be invested in B.C.’s freshwater fisheries under a new funding agreement between the Society and the Province.
This means that in the coming year, the Society will receive about $10 million, an increase of some $3 million annually.
This extra funding will let the Society, in collaboration with partners, improve angler access and stocking programs; assess hatchery and wild fish populations; and enhance enforcement of fisheries regulations.
The Habitat Conservation Trust Fund, a non-profit partner of the Society, will continue to receive 100% of the surcharge on licences.
Every angler 16 and older must purchase a fishing licence, but by doing so, you’re making fishing in B.C. even better!
