Vancouver Public Library is now home to a fully-equipped digital media hub for people to connect with each other and create their stories. The hub has sound studios, video production and editing, analog-to-digital conversion, and self-publishing software, and even a green screen. Plus, it’s free to use.
Funding for building and setting up the space comes equally from the City of Vancouver’s Innovation Fund, the VPL Foundation, and the library.
“This is kind of a creative playground where anyone can experiment with cool technology, without having to buy their own – and that is very enabling. By enabling more young people to achieve their dreams by doing what they want to do, I think we'll truly be on the path to something great,” says Sam Chandola, a B.C. Business ‘30 Under 30’ winner and founder and CEO of Victory Square Games in Vancouver:
Victory Square Games is working with VPL for one of the Inspiration Lab’s first partner programs: a week-long video game development workshop for teens this summer.
Featured in the Inspiration lab are the Terry McBride Recording Studio (made possible through a donation from the Highbury Foundation, which named the space in honour of McBride, a music industry visionary and co-founder of Vancouver’s Nettwerk Music Group) and the Munford Family Studio (made possible by a donation from the Munford family).
