Special to the Post
Once we all arrived, we snacked on a small bowl of mixed olives that came dressed in olive oil, orange zest, and a light sprinkling of herbs. They were a good snack to have while waiting for our meal.
We got the Crab Mini Burgers featuring three sliders with a rock crab patty, pickled daikon and carrot, cilantro, and chili mayonnaise. Although the panko crusted patties were crunchy on the outside, there was a soft and fluffy interior. The sweetness of the crab came through, along with the red pepper pieces mixed within. The pickled daikon, carrot, and cilantro provided some brightness and a crunch, while the mild chili mayonnaise kept things moist. These were a solid option if you’re looking for something lighter than a traditional burger.
We also got the Lamb Mini Burgers featuring a ground lamb meatball in tomato sauce, pickled onions, feta cheese, mint, and cilantro. The lamb meatball was super moist, packing flavour from the meat and tangy tomato sauce. The ingredient that really made it pop was the mint, giving it a middle eastern spin. The feta cheese was far creamier than any feta I’ve previously tried. Finally the pickled red onions provided a crunch and some acidity. These were really, really good, and I would happily order them again.
We also ordered the Mac & Cheese. Served in a skillet, the pasta featured gruyere, grana padano, and aged cheddar, along with a toasted breadcrumb topping. Although the elbow macaroni had a nice bite, the portion was laughably small. We were disappointed with the flavour.
So in the end lunch at Six Acres had some hits (the mini burgers) and some misses (the mac and cheese). The lamb burger makes it worthy of a return visit though.
