Fairchild Television is asking for Miss Chinese Vancouver Pageant nominations for its 30th-anniversary celebration. Nominators of the finalists will have a chance to win a round-trip business class to Hong Kong from Vancouver.
The pageant is a platform to showcase 17 - 27 aged women’s intelligence, beauty and talents as a part of an annual charity event. Past pageant winners who served their community also were role models for young people.
Last year’s winner, YiYi Wang, first stepped into the pageant world as a dancer at 15. From that point on, she dedicated herself to her dance, honing public speaking and learning foreign languages to become the reigning champion.
Miss Chinese Vancouver 2021 Cindy Wu is an artist who promotes environmental awareness through her own paintings of calligraphy. She has sponsored her students at her art school to go on exchange programs. Wu said this training had empowered her with the confidence to handle the challenges of being in a pageant.
The 2020 pageant second runner-up winner Vicky Wu has since co-hosted a food program. She entered the pageant to overcome her shyness by building up self-confidence and becoming more comfortable in front of the camera.
Nicole Tanner, the 2nd Runner-up from 2023, is a pediatrician who brings her expertise in stand-up comedy, which incorporates elements of hip-hop, beatbox, and ventriloquism. The competition helped Tanner better understand Canadian culture and become integrated in society.
