Canada aims to take home the Puig Women’s America’s Cup

Team Canada's goal has its eye on the prize -- to win the first-ever Puig Women's America's Cup and the UniCredit Youth America's Cup regattas in Barcelona in October. Team Canada will be part of a fleet of 12 teams vying to qualify for the Match Race Final.

The Puig Cup will be the first women’s competition in the America's Cup, the world's oldest international sporting trophy dating back to 1851.

Team Canada consists of two distinct squads: the Women's team and the Youth team. Isabella Bertold leads the Women's team, composed of a crew of four led by, competed during the America's Cup Final series this month. Andrew Wood is the Youth Team Lead, which also has a four-person crew that competed last month.

The Concord Pacific Racing Women’s team will race in the state-of-the-art AC40 boat, which uses the latest foil and sail technology to reach speeds of up to 100 km/h. The women’s events use the smaller AC40s, which are a standard design and fully battery powered.

The "It's Time" campaign is an initiative to inspire future female athletes competing in a traditionally male-dominated sport. The campaign highlights Team Canada's women's team’s determination to sailing under the banner of Concord Pacific Racing. Concord contributes over $2 million dollars annually into the communities they develop in through family oriented events and charities, including the Concord Pacific Dragon Boat Festival.

"It's about time women were on this stage," said Isabella Bertold, Principal of Concord Pacific Racing, in a statement. "This campaign is about shining a spotlight on the incredible female athletes in our team and providing young girls with role models. If you can see it, you can be it, and we want to show aspiring female athletes that they too can compete at the highest level."

“When I first found out that there might be a women’s America’s Cup, I instantly knew that we had to find a way to have Canada be there,” Bertold told the Toronto Star. “For me, this is beyond just going and racing in a sailboat race; it’s a big stepping stone for women in sport.”

According to Canadian Women & Sport 2023 report, two out of three Canadians are women's sports fans -- with Gen Z and millennials making up the majority. About 85% of fans watch women's sports on TV or online. The campaign is now live on HYPERLINK "https://c212.net/c/link/?t=0&l=en&o=4269462-1&h=1948954500&u=https%3A%2F...
