Four decades of classic melodies and lyrics

Filipino singer/songwriter Jose Mari Chan will captivate you with his mellow music. For the past 40 years, Chan captured the hearts of audience in the Philippine music industry with his unforgettable and distinctive slow-paced rhythms.



His hit songs, like “Beautiful Girl,” “Refrain,” “Afterglow”  and “Constant Change,” are considered pop classics that are cherished for their uncomplicated melodies and lyrics that everyone can relate to.


Chan is not just a popular Filipino singer-songwriter, he is also a prominent and successful  and businessman engaged in sugar industry.  He graduated with a degree in economics from Ateneo de Manila University in 1967.


Chan is also philanthropist who has previously performed in concerts for humanitarian causes, he has written hundreds of songs since his first song “Afterglow” was played on the radio in 1964. Among other memorable songs of the prolific tunesmith are “A Love to Last a Lifetime,” “Can We Just Stop and Talk a While,” “ Tell Me Your Name,” and “Deep in My Heart.”


Fans have described his love songs as fresh and captivating while critics found poetry in the lyrics, not to say that they also find Chan’s songs heartwarming, apart from the fact that they trigger a yearning for days gone by.


He composed his first song, “Afterglow”, and has since written hundreds of songs. He composed "We're All Just One", the theme song of the 2005 Southeast Asian Games.


Among admirers (especially non-Filipinos) he is known as the "Filipino Jimmy Webb" in honor of the intricate English-language lyrics which set his songs apart from others.  Webb is an American songwriter who has written some of the most memorable and innovative music of his generation. From his initial musical success with "Up, Up, and Away," "By the Time I Get to Phoenix," "Wichita Lineman," "Galveston," and "MacArthur Park" to his critically acclaimed solo albums.


Much of Chan's early music remains popular worldwide, and some of his songs have rebounded as hits for other artists, such as Lea Salonga. His music is often heard over online music channels, such as United States-based PhilRadio International. This continuing popularity has brought an increasing international following while cementing his place as a star among his countrymen.


Chan holds the distinction of the only Filipino recording artist who achieved a Double Record Award, for the biggest- selling Christmas album in the industry’s entire history, Christmas In Our Hearts.


Concert promoter Leo Dy and associates will bring Chan for the first time in Vancouver to perform at Glad Tidings Church located at 3456 Fraser St. with Ed Dayao and the Java band, and a special duet performance of Vancouver's Salve and Mia Dayao.
