Hawthorn-Vancouver launched their new English for Communication program in January 2006.
The new English for Communication course is designed to challenge students at every level of their English studies. Integrated classes develop the students' speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills. A wide range of topics, materials and activites keeps them motivated and interested. The innovative curriculum is based on Canadian language standards that are widely recognized. Each English for Communication stage has a set of core features.
Foundation 1 and 2
- A focus on learning essential communication skills
- Students build a strong language base that supports their future studies
- Practical, functional English for everyday situations
- Regular 'Social English' and 'Practice & Go' activities promote learning English outside the classroom
Competency 1, 2 and 3
- A focus on expanding and strengthening communication skills
- Student gain greater confidence as their English abilities grow
- A wider range of topics and situations is explored in more depth
- Students apply their new skills to stimulating class and group projects
Proficiency 1, 2 and 3
- A focus on refining communication skills
- Students become ready to interact in authentic English environments
- Students master the nuances of the English language
- Individual assignments, extended projects, and leadership roles provide opportunities to demonstrate English expertise
