Ever seen four-legged robots playing soccer? Well, now's your chance to watch robotic soccer, win a 60G iPod and a whole lot more during an activity-filled day of discovery and exploration at SFU's faculty of applied sciences (FAS) annual open house, Feb. 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the applied sciences building at the Burnaby campus.

 

Everyone is welcome - especially high school students and their parents - to Discover Applied Sciences 2006, which is designed to inform prospective students about FAS undergraduate programs. All of the faculty's schools with undergraduate programs - communication, computing science, engineering science, kinesiology and interactive arts and technology (based at SFU Surrey) - will be showcasing some of their most exciting and innovative ideas.

 

Get wowed by the incredible things applied science students are building, create something of your own, play computer games from the stone age to the new age, discover the difference between programming and computing science, and learn about every aspect of SFU from admissions and student life to athletics and recreation.

 

The FAS building's atrium and hallway will have hands-on displays, video games and information booths staffed by advisors, faculty, and students. Visitors can take lab tours, participate in interactive demonstrations and hear presentations from the schools about their programs. Plus grab a free lunch courtesy of the faculty. And those quadrupedal soccer bots? They'll be there playing up a storm, as will some hockey bots and a robotic helicopter that can fly autonomously with no human intervention for 3 km through designated GPS waypoints.
