Start saving for a speeding ticket! Ford’s most powerful Mustang ever, the GT500KR, is hitting dealerships this month. Powered by a supercharged 5.4-litre, 540-horsepower V8 engine, the ‘KR’ in the machine’s designation stands for King of the Road.
The automaker promises that the model blends SVT engineering, Ford Racing experience and Shelby ingenuity for an uncompromising package. It’s also a TV star, with a starring role on a re-make of the old Knight-Rider series.
Packing 40 more horsepower than the ‘standard’ GT500 model, the KR boasts a slew of go-fast goodies like an aero kit, weight reduction, and upgraded chassis components to handle the demands of high performance driving.

Shelby has even gone so far as to custom tune the KR’s suspension rates to deliver the best possible handling for the model, each of which are finalized at his build facility.
“Every new Shelby Mustang renews my energy and passion for performance,” said Carroll Shelby.
“I’m just as excited about the 2008 KR as I was when I developed the first one. The team has done a great job with this car. It is this is truly the best Shelby Mustang we’ve ever built ... so far.” Just 1,000 will be built for 2008, selling at an MSRP of $79,995, each.
