A Malaysian princess was slashed to death with a hunting knife by her own son whom eyewitnesses said appeared to be under the influence of drugs.
Sixty-four year old Princess Kamaria Sultan Abu Bakar was killed at her family home in the Malaysian city of Kuantan. Her husband Prince Ismal Sulaiman was seriously wounded in the attack last July 24.
The princess is the half-sister of the Sultan of Pahang while the prince, who suffered cuts in the abdomen, is a member of one of Malaysia’s nine royal houses.
Police arrested the couple’s 21-year-old son Tunku Rizal Shahzan who died six hours later at a hospital from an apparent drug overdoes, the New Straits Times reported.
Eyewitnesses say he appeared to be heavily under the influence of drugs. Police say they recovered a combat knife and a screwdriver from the scene.
The young royal was believed to have been under the influence of the psychotropic substance shabu, known elsewhere in crack or meth.
A neighbour said that Shahzan was in a deranged state moments before he attacked his parents.
The New Straits Times reported that the princess tried to stop her son from attacking his partially paralyzed father with a screwdriver. The young royal got hold of a hunting knife and slashed his mother in the back before turning on to his father.
The couple’s maid, an Indonesian identified as Elise, screamed when she saw the attack on the prince who was seated on a couch.
Neighbours who heard the commotion rushed into the house, overpowered Shahzan and and tied him up with a rope.
