Priest’s double life exposed
A Filipino Catholic priest charged with embezzling thousands of dollars from two small churches in Louisa County, Virginia, in the United States may plead guilty shortly, according to his lawyer. Although Reverend Rodney Lee Rodis is so far only charged with embezzling thousands of dollars, authorities in Virginia allege the priest may have embezzled about $1 million from two churches.
Dog jingle
Senator Edgardo Angara and former senator Vicente Sotto III, who are both running to be senators in the coming election will be filing a complaint against a controversial jingle being played by the opposition. The complaint was meant to determine whether the jingle had violated provisions in the Fair Elections Act.
Lighting up
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will strictly enforce a law requiring the mandatory use of daytime lights for motorcycles to reduce the risk of road accidents. Manila mayors have agreed to pass a resolution that would compel motorcycle riders to turn on and use special headlights in the daytime.
Naked fury
A German man has been arrested after he took off his trousers in the Philippines because he was annoyed by airport security. Hans Jurgen Oskar von Naguschewski, 66, performed the impromptu strip after being asked to go through the X-ray machine twice at Manila airport. “He was clearly irked,” said a policeman.
Motorcycle donation
Taiwan has donated 50 police motorbikes to the Philippines. Taiwan’s representative to the Philippines, Wu Hsing-hsing, said the motorbikes are for firefighters in remote areas. Two years ago,in June 2005, Taiwan donated two fire engines, some fire-fighting equipment and 140 police motorbikes to Manila
