Hours worked per week: 40 hours/week

 

Salary Range: $40,000 - $70,000

 

Best part of job: I love being in a creative environment, yet working on the business side of things. I am very fortunate to work where an entrepreneurial spirit is appreciated.

 

I am able to see my ideas for improvement be implemented and learn from it.
Other possible career choices: Public practice, entrepreneur, controller, financial services

 

EDUCATION

 

Degree: Dipl. T (Professional Accounting) Financial Management Program/CMA Fasttrack & Strategic Leadership Programs

 

Length of program: 2 years at BCIT and approximately 3 years for CMA
 

Grad year: 2003 from BCIT/ CMA convocation in 2007

 

School: BCIT, CMA
 

Work Placement: There is no work placement per se, however BCIT has a careeer fair every year that is very helpful, and also had representatives from all of the large accounting firms in the lower mainland come to speak to our program.

 

Advice: It is important to realize that accountants in industry are not what they used to be. CMA’s are recognized as business professionals that have a broader skill set than just financial strength, but the ability to create value & differentiation from a clearly communicated business strategy. The CMA program is challenging so don’t forget to keep your life balanced while you are studying, allocate time for friends, family, and hobbies.

 

LIFESTYLE

 

Favourite recreational activities: Surfing, ballet, bike riding, sleeping, baking, eating chocolate, and traveling!

 

Upcoming vacation plans: My fiancee and I will be surfing in Bali in May and we’ll also be stopping in Hong Kong on the way home, very exciting! 
 

In five years, I see myself enjoying: Professionally, I feel that the CMA designation will open doors for me in the next 5 years and allow me to experience a leadership position where I’ll be able to utilize the skills I am currently learning. My goal is to either start my own company or attain a challenging position within a larger company.

 

Personally: I’d like to travel as much as possible and have a family.
