Fishing is as popular as ever in B.C.! Does your child want to learn how to catch fish?

 

Learn to Fish has taught over 125,000 youngsters between the ages of five and 15 how to fish since launching in 2006. The program is run by the Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC with support from the Habitat Conservation Trust Foundation, Rapala, and the Province of British Columbia. 

 

Learn to Fish classes run at North Vancouver’s Rice Lake in the Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve; Coquitlam’s Como and Lafarge lakes (with new programs for 12- to 15-year-olds this year); Vancouver’s Sanctuary Pond in Hastings Park; and Surrey’s Green Timbers Park. This summer, Fraser River programs will run in Fort Langley and Abbotsford.

 

In one hands-on session, your child will learn where, when, and how to catch fish, including:

• fish identification, biology, and habitat

• regulations, conservation, and fishing ethics

• safe use of rods, reels, and tackle, with practice casting and retrieving 

• handling and care of fish
