S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Fundraising Gala a big success

The star-studded fundraising show presented by Vancouver-based Chinese Canadian organization draws over 10,000 audiences and raised whopping $380,000 cash donations to support multi-cultural programs for new immigrants.



Organized by S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Foundation, the Gala held at GM Place has been one of the premier fundraising shows in North America since 1997. Since its inception, it has attracted over 120,000 people and raised more than $5,000,000 for community services in Metro Vancouver.


As in previous years, this year’s Gala was well attended by notable dignitaries. Among these special guests were the Hon. Steven Point, Lieutenant-Governor of BC; the Hon. Wally Oppal, Attorney General and Minister Responsible for Multiculturalism; the Hon. Linda Reid, Minister of State for Childcare; His Worship Sam Sullivan, Mayor of Vancouver; His Worship Malcolm Brodie, Mayor of Richmond and His Worship Maxine Wilson, Mayor of  Coquitlam.


“Tonight we have successfully met our fundraising target. These proceeds will benefit individuals who require services in the areas of youth, women, seniors, and family counseling programs,” announced Lawrence Woo Chair of S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Foundation.


The 2008 Fundraising Gala featured a star-studded lineup of popular performers from Asia. The incomparable cast included Eric Tsang, Michael Miu, Kenny Bee, Edmond Leung, Theresa Fu, Eric Suen, Fiona Sit, Justin, Hins Cheung, Niki Chow and Jaime Chik. The three masters of ceremonies were: Louis Yuen, Siu Wai Mui and Sherming Yiu.

The annual S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Fundraising Raffle Sale, a companion fundraising effort along with the Gala, had the winning numbers drawn during the show.


This year the top three financial institutions who received raffle sales awards were: HSBC Bank Canada, Scotiabank and TD Canada Trust.


S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Foundation, incorporated in December 2001, is a charitable foundation responsible for raising funds for S.U.C.C.E.S.S. and its affiliated organizations to support their mandates for the betterment of the community.
