Careers in Finances & Business: Vivien Chow

Title: Financial Analyst
Age: 29
Occupation: Financial Analyst at Fraser Health. I was previously a Manager of Accounting administration at Constructive Solution Co.
Company: Fraser Health Authority
Length at position: I started on March 2004, so that would make it 3 years.

Hours worked per week: 37 and a half.
Best part of job: I get to deal with a lot of people from various backgrounds in such departments like Finances, Nursing, Management, or Physiotherapy. From there, I learn about the costs of the activities they were involved in. For instance, when a patient comes in for surgery, the financial analysis calculates the expenses of the overnight stay, the use of
the operation room, and so forth.

EDUCATION:
Degree(s) and School: SFU BBA, CMA Strategic Leadership Progrom for 2 years, IT professional at BCIT to improve statistics
CMA Pros: Similar to MBA programs. CMA has more operational and managerial focus.
Challenges- Time Management and group work.
Advice: You have to be ready to commit your own time to do the heavy work that follows, as well as deal with people who may not agree with your ideas in a group project.
Anyone from any sort of educational background can apply for CMA. However, those with accounting skills and a book-keeping trait tend to have the upper hand.
CMA offers a Fast-Track program, which lasts for 10 months before the 2-day entrance exam, and is beneficial for those who want to start early. CMA, as a whole, is quite flexible in obtaining a job in any industry that is related to accounting.

LIFESTYLE:
Favourite recreational activity: I love playing tennis and going to the gym.

Upcoming vacation plans:  Not at the moment, I just recently came back from Boston.

In five years, I see myself : Getting a leadership role. Right now, I currently work as a financial analyst, but I would like to take on being a leader one day. I also wish to develop my financial skills.
