Sikhs gear up for Khalsa Day 2011

Every April, millions of Sikhs world-wide celebrate Khalsa Day, a day that marks both the New Year and the anniversary of one of Sikhism’s most important events, the establishment of Khalsa in 1699 with the first Amrit ceremony. The Vancouver Vaisakhi Parade scheduled for April 16, 2011, attracts about 50,000 spectators, and Surrey’s annual Vaisakhi Parade and Celebration on April 23, 2011, which attracts 80,000 - 200,000, making it one of the largest Vaisakhi parades outside India.

The parade starts at 11am at the Ross Street Temple (8000 Ross St at 64th), goes up Main Street, along 49th Ave, it will then turn right onto Fraser St. and head back to the temple along 57th Ave.

Surrey Vaisakhi Parade and Celebration
Saturday, April 23, 2011
The parade begins around 8am at the Gurdwara Dashmesh Darbar Temple, at 12885 85th Avenue in Surrey.
