Julio Augustine was born in the Philippines. At the age of 17, he began his journey into the world of foods. Julio started off as a dishwasher at the Oasis Hotel in the Philippines and eventually worked his way up to the Head Chef role. Julio’s talents in the kitchen enabled him to work as a chef in South Africa and the Middle East. After immigrating to Canada in 2004, Julio worked in numerous well-known restaurants. On December 26, 2010, Julio opened Alk-O-Bar, a family owned and operated restaurant providing American and Philippine cuisine. Alk-O-Bar’s menu offers a great selection of food, including the “Shrimp Augustine”, a dish created by Julio himself. The “Shrimp Augustine” comprises of fresh shrimps stuffed with crab meat, mixed vegetables and herb breads. Julio enjoys the Fraser street location because of its mixed customers and accessibility. Whether you want to dine-in, take-out, cater, or a bubble tea to go, Alk-O-Bar is there. Alk-O-Bar’s service, ambiance and food make the experience very enjoyable. Cooking is not just Julio’s passion, it’s his life.
