Before opening his own produce store, Ling Liie Yang gained experience in the industry by working as a supervisor at a produce wholesaler for over 15 years. Produce Marketplace specializes in Asian products and produce, in fact they carry one of the largest varieties of Asian produce in South Vancouver. In order to maintain good quality, they go directly to the wholesalers each morning to do quality control inspections before they order, instead of placing phone orders without seeing the product themselves.
Most of the Produce Marketplace’s customers are local residents but there are also a number of customers who travel from further away, because they like the unique product mix the store offers. Produce Marketplace has a staff of 15 and they all live in the South Hill area. One of the ways the company maintains good customer service is by having some well-trained staff members who also speak English. They help English-speaking customers find specialty Asian products.
