One of BC's biggest shopping malls is asking, ‘So you think you can sing?’

Lougheed Mall, a Burnaby shopping destination is on the search to uncover the hidden vocal talent in Greater Vancouver for a chance to win the grand prize, which includes a $5000 scholarship.

Contestants have until August 18th to enter Lougheed Sings.

Demos can be submitted online via YouTube or email, or can be handed in to the customer service team at Lougheed in person.

There will also be live demo recordings with professional recording equipment and a sound technician offered on site August 18th at Lougheed Centre Court.

Alexa Garcia, an aspiring musician from Vancouver, sees competitions such as Lougheed Sings, as key stepping stones to help a singer build a resume and get noticed.

"You never know who is watching and how they will be impacted by your singing," said the 19 year old Burnaby resident. "If you don't try, you will never know."

The top 10 entrants will be selected and provided private voice lessons prior to performing in a live, Canadian Idol-style performance on August 24th.

The public will have the opportunity to vote online and in-mall for their favourites following the live competition.

On August 31st the finalists will again perform at Lougheed Town Centre during a red carpet evening event to celebrate the music of pop icon Madonna.

The Grand Prize Winner will be decided by a combination of judges’ points and number of votes received. The judging panel is made up of music industry heavyweights, including Jan Cooper of Pump Records, Frederick Robert, a former Canadian Tenor and Adam H. of Rockstar Academy.

The grand prizewinner will be awarded two tickets to Madonna’s September 30th Vancouver Show, a $500 shopping spree at Lougheed Town Centre, and Rockstar Academy is providing a $4,900 scholarship to the RSA Gold Singing program.

The scholarship includes 6 weeks of intensive classes with RSA coaches including pop star Elise Estrada.

Lougheed Town Centre is located at North Road and Austin Avenue and is a central destination for Burnaby shopping and Coquitlam shopping.  The mall is home to over 160 shops and services including H&M, Walmart, London Drugs, Safeway, and The Bay.
