Colonial era marked through dance performance

Colonial is dance performance showcasing the talents of five Filipino artists of this generation who redress and dig deep into the complex, bitter and sweet account of colonialism.
In a tapestry of music, video, costuming and dance sourced from the Filipino culture and life, they transport viewers to that time in the Philippine’s history.
The star of the show is Vancouver based Alvin Erasga Tolentino whose work has spanned close to three decades of contemporary dance in Vancouver. He founded the Co.ERASGA dance company in 2000.
For Colonial, he draws from indigenous Filipino forms for his choreography.
Tolentino was born in the Philippines and immigrated to Canada in 1983. His touring engagements and cross cultural collaboration has taken him to numerous countries from France, Belgium, and Germany to Japan, Singapore and the Philippines. In 2010 he received the Vancouver’s Mayor Arts Award for his contribution to the performing arts in Dance Tolentino .
The show’s director Dennis Gupa received his MA Theatre Arts degree from University of the Philippines.
He worked as a Assistant Professor of theatre arts and communication at the University of the Philippines Los Banos.
