Victoria’s India Fest Mela runs this year from August 5th to the 11th, 2013, at the Victoria City Hall Centennial Square.
The event, now in its 4th year, is being hosted by The India-Canada Cultural Association of Victoria.
The India Fest is a culturally inclusive, free public event, showcasing Victoria’s Indian community. It is an opportunity for this community to share the power, diversity and colour of Indian culture with the people of Vancouver Island.
This seven-day event features a pulsing hot main stage with professional and budding semi-professional, live Indian entertainment.
Classical and modern Bollywood dances/music, gidda, bhangra, garba/dhandia dances, as well as a fashion & jewelry show will be included.
In addition, highly energetic entertainment from many other multicultural communities will be showcased: performances by Middle Eastern, Chinese, Philippines, Latin, and other cultures from the mosaic that is Canada.
Enjoy a full menu of mouth-watering authentic Indian foods available at the food stand (butter chicken, naan, Vegetable curries, rice, pakoras, samosas, papadam), a masala chai and sweets booth and the barbequed Indian delicacies booth.
Items and artistic services such as clothing, jewelry, henna and palm reading can be purchased at the many Indian cultural kiosks.
We will also feature balloon animals, face painting, and much more that will broaden the range of appeal, from children to seniors.
This festival gives local community a glimpse of India and its subcontinent’s art, culture, history and people.
It is an opportunity to allow the flourishing Indian community to celebrate and share the power, diversity and color of its culture with the population of Vancouver Island.
