BC teen sets her sights on gold medal in upcoming competition

If Jacqueline Lew hopes to become an Olympian one day, she is well one her way. She is the current national cadet championship title in the 46 kg weight division. She will represent Canada in that class in the Cadet Pan-American Championships that will take place July 3 - 5 in Guadalajara, Mexico. In May, she won the Western Canada Summer Games trials in her weight class of 59 kg. The games are set in Wood Buffalo, Alberta from August 7 to 11. She will also represent Canada at the Cadet World Championship in Sarajevo, Bosnia from August 25 - 30.
Although she has only been wresting for the past two years, she has won numerous tournaments, including first at the Coquitlam School District’s Westling Tournament, first at the BC Summer Games 2014, first at the provincials 2015 competition in Abbotsford, BC, first in the Freestyle Cadet Fila Trials and Freestyle at Cadet Nationals.
“She’s just the most dedicated, hardworking wrestler that you could ask for,” noted Pinetree wrestling coach Bill Adair in an interview with the Now newspaper. “Jacqueline’s pretty amazing, and one of those few special ones who come around but once or twice in a coach’s career.”
She trains with the Coast Wrestling Club, but she also trains with the US Olympic Training Centre at Colorado Springs. She has trained with the US National Development Centre in Arizona in December 2014 and Washington (April 2015). In 2014, when Lew was just 15, she was invited to participate in a dual competition in Oregon with Simon Fraser University Women’s Wresting team.
