Restaurant Review: Aburi King

We ordered the three Aburi Oshi options including Hamachi, Bluefin Tuna and Salmon. The repetitive sauce and toppings didn't highlight the unique flavours and texture of each fish. Despite that, we still enjoyed the evenly torched fish. Maybe the hamachi could've been cooked a bit less. The rice was quite good. The smokiness and caramelization was apparent.
The Aburi Roll consisted of spicy tuna, spicy salmon, chopped hamachi and chopped scallop on top of an avocado cucumber roll. This was overloaded with ingredients, which I didn`t mind. Unlike the aburi oshi, the toppings were still fairly rare and buttery. Again, the smokiness and caramelization of the sauce created aromatics and umaminess. This was well worth it. The Fish & Chip Cone consisted of sole fish tempura, avocado, cucumber, masago, potato flakes and special sauce. The fish was flaky with a crunchy batter. It could have used a bit more rice.
The Assorted Tempura with ebi, eggplant, carrot and zucchini featured a fairly thin layer of batter that was mostly crispy. Some parts were a little doughy. The ebi had a buttery and moist snap. Although the veggies were sliced pretty thin and small, they were not overcooked. I would've liked to see thicker pieces. The Chicken Katsu came with rice, miso soup, salad and California roll.  Good value here. The chicken was crispy, but the meat wasn't completely dried out.
Probably one of the best values on the menu was the Ramen. Sure, the soup base lacked a bit of depth and the chashu was cut too thick. Yet, the noodles were on point while the egg was decent. Aburi King had decent eats that are nearby some of the more well-known spots in town, for a good price.  Good value food here.
