Restaurant Review: The Down Low Chicken Shack

The Down Low Chicken Shack is one of the first Nashville-style hot chicken joints to open up in Vancouver. It’s been getting a lot of attention – not to mention lineups out the door.

They use fresh chicken that is hormone and antibiotic free, along with being free run, non-GMO and grain fed. Their menu is pretty straightforward and at a pretty affordable price point.

We ordered “On a Bun”, cornbread, half bird and chicken strips.

The “On a Bun” is chicken breast served on a milk bun with Down Low’s sauce, sweet and sour slaw and house pickles. The chicken was tender and juicy, crunchy and breaded well. The slaw and the pickles gave it a nice sweet and sour taste to it to offset the grease from the chicken. The milk bun held up with all the ingredients inside.

The cornbread is dense and a great side to the half bird.

We love that the chicken is served atop slices of white bread to soak in the grease and enjoy afterwards.

The chicken strips were nice and spicy, tender and breaded well.

We enjoyed our meal at The Down Low Chicken Shack. We’d definitely recommend you give it a try, especially if you like a little heat to your fried chicken!
